Up for sale is a rare, historically fascinating variant of the iconic 1930 railroad illustration "At The Old Depot" by artist and real-life MKT line telegrapher C.D. Poage.
Unlike the common promotional copies stamped by the Union Switch & Signal Co., this specific piece features the unique bottom margin imprint of P. F. Pettibone & Co. Stationers, Printers, and Edition Binders located at 27-33 North Desplaines Street, Chicago.
The illustration playfully catalogs the overwhelming duties of a small-town agent named "J. Pluto Bolivar," who holds every role from Mayor to Mail Carrier while ignoring a chaotic room to focus on high-priority mail sacks to avoid a fine. Packed with magnificent details—including a potbelly stove, waiting passengers peering through the window, and threadless glass insulators used as chair glides!
Condition: Presentable vintage condition safely housed under glass in a dark-stained vintage frame with elegant outer bead detailing. The print shows minor, natural age toning appropriate for its nearly century-old lifespan. Ready for immediate display.
