This handcrafted amoeba-like vessel and sealed container with matt sky-blue color was found in a local thrift store. It resembles the designs of cloud-shaped ceramic water basin (suiban) like the Sogetsu \"Shadow Basin\" used for lessons as well as for other ikebana displays and exhibits. The Hiiro秘色seal was used by Hisokuyaki Pottery Studio(秘色 焼製陶所)as a registered manufacturer(1922-2013) whose peak production started immediatley after 1952 through early 1970\'s. Its production centered in Tokoname located in Aichi Prefecture and whose kilns were known for crafting high-quality, durable ikebana containers. Japanese ikebana containers were exported in large numbers with non-traditional shapes during that time. This container is easily adapted to most ikebana schools that use an intriguing shaped, low container as well as any free-style floral arrangement or any other use for any occasion, season or reason. We have found and enjoyed many ikebana containers while in Japan and throughout the US. They are displayed at home, used for demonstrations and presented at exhibitions. The first six and last picture were taken with a black felt background with workroom lighting and the pictures in between were taken in camera tent; the empty Asahi bottle is not for sale, but to illustrate the relative size of the container.
