This distinctive Mexican folk art figure features an expressive stylized female face with large brown eyes, painted brown hair, a delicate black bow at the neck, and bold orange floral decoration. The beautifully aged surface and warm orange, cream, brown and black palette give the piece wonderful mid-century character.
Gemma Taccogna was an Italian-born artist who established her papier-mâché studio in Mexico and became known for her highly recognizable hand-painted decorative figures and heads.

Base measures approximately 4 3/4" x 3 3/4"
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-related surface wear, rubbing, crazing and scattered paint/finish loss consistent with age and the nature of papier-mâché. There is asmall area of surface loss/chipping to the tip/side of the nose with surrounding cracking/crazing, as photographed. Several small areas of surface/paint loss are also present along the lower edge of the base. Otherwise, no major structural damage observed.
