Vintage Japanese Wooden Konpira Treasure Ship / Folk Art Ornament
A beautiful vintage Japanese wooden decorative ship featuring the traditional Konpira (Kotohira) motif.
The large wooden sail features the Japanese character “金” (Kin / Gold), while the base is marked “金刀比羅” (Konpira / Kotohira).
The ship is carefully constructed from wood and decorated with many small details, including barrels, figures, a traditional pouch, ropes, and a red decorative element.
Konpira has long been associated in Japan with ships, sailors, maritime travel, and safe voyages, making this an interesting piece of Japanese folk art as well as a distinctive decorative object.
