A very attractive vintage Mabie Todd Swan 6242 Self-Filler fountain pen, finished in the desirable blue marble / cracked-ice celluloid with gold-tone trim.
Dating to approximately c.1940, the 6242 is a classic English Swan lever filler and this example is fitted with a particularly pleasing Swan No.2 14ct gold flexible nib. Specialist references document this exact model and finish with the same No.2 flexible nib configuration.

Nib & Writing
The 14ct Swan No.2 nib is an excellent example and is one of the strongest features of this pen.
It writes with a relatively fine line under light pressure and offers very good flexibility and natural line variation when gently flexed. The nib is smooth and extremely pleasant to write with.
Please refer to the writing sample photographs, which show the degree of variation available.
Servicing
The pen has been lightly and sympathetically cleaned, avoiding harsh chemicals or aggressive polishing in order to retain its original vintage character.
A new ink sac has been fitted and the lever filling system has been tested and is operating correctly.
The nib and feed have also been cleaned and flushed and the pen is ready to fill and use.
Condition
The pen remains in very good vintage condition overall, especially considering its age.
There are signs of honest previous use, including:
- Some light scratches and surface marks
- A few small dings/marks to the body
- Age-related wear to the trim
- Some plating wear consistent with normal use
Despite this, the blue marble celluloid remains highly attractive and the pen presents extremely well overall.
The barrel markings remain visible and the pen retains plenty of original character.
Please study all photographs carefully for the exact cosmetic condition.
