Vintage RPPC Real Photo Postcard Winter Forest Trees Divided Back Unposted: $5.00
A vintage Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) featuring a winter forest or snow-covered tree scene, with a divided back and unposted status, is a striking example of early-to-mid 20th-century vernacular photography.
Key Characteristics & Historical Context
Real Photo Postcard (RPPC): Unlike mass-printed lithographs, this card was printed from an actual photographic negative onto postcard-backed photographic paper (such as AZO, Velox, or CYKO). Winter landscapes required precise exposure to capture the sharp contrast between dark tree trunks and bright snow without washing out the highlights.
The Divided Back Era (1907–Present): Authorized in the U.S. in March 1907, the divided back split the reverse side to allow a message on the left and an address on the right. Atmospheric landscape photography like this—often capturing serene woods, snowdrifts, or frosted pine trees—was especially popular as holiday greetings or artistic keepsakes from the 1910s through the 1940s.
Unposted: Because the card was never mailed, stamped, or postmarked, it usually features a completely clean reverse side, preserving its original darkroom crispness and edge condition.
