Vintondale PA RPPC Stone Business Block Storefronts Vintage Postcard c. 1910: $35.00
Vintage RPPC – Stone Business Block, Vintondale, Pennsylvania Real photo postcard showing a two-story stone-faced commercial building with a hipped roof, a front dormer and a tall chimney. The ground floor holds a row of large storefront windows and doorways, with merchandise and advertising displayed in the windows, including a sign for chocolates. Several people pose for the photographer: men in white work coats stand in the doorways and at the corner, and more faces look out from the open upper-story windows. A wooden utility pole strung with glass insulators stands at the curb, and a neighboring frame building with an outside stairway is visible at the left. Vintondale, in Cambria County, was a coal company town of the Vinton Colliery Company, largely owned by Warren Delano, uncle of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt; mining there continued until 1968. Postmarked Vintondale, Pa., franked with a green one-cent Franklin stamp, and addressed in pencil to Cherry Tree, Penna., with a handwritten pencil message on the back, circa 1910s. A great piece for collectors of Vintondale and Cambria County, Pennsylvania topographical postcards, coal company town history, or early storefront and small-town commerce views.
