Visconti Wall Street 2005 Green Celluloid Fountain Pen NEW in Box:
$505.35

This is one of the finest and most renowned fountain pens from the so-called ‘Italian Renaissance’ – that is, the fabulous years spanning from around 1990 to around 2005, when Visconti, Stipula, Delta and a handful of others were producing fountain pens of the very highest calibre, crafted from first-rate materials...Visconti, founded in 1988 by two enthusiast-collectors, specialised in celluloid, and right from the start – first with the extraordinary ‘D’Essai’ and later with the first series of the ‘Ragtime’ – it captured the interest of collectors thanks to the quality of its products, which utilised blocks of ‘antique’ celluloid, so much so that the ‘D’Essai’ pens, depending on the colour, were produced in quantities ranging from 39 to around 1,000, depending on how much aged celluloid of that specific colour could be sourced.... I recall that the extremely rare ‘Blue Lapis’, produced in a run of 39, was the holy grail of all collectors at the time. The Wall Street, launched in 2003, was, and remains, a fantastic pen, available in green, blue, grey or red celluloid, with ringed detailing, made from very high-quality celluloid, featuring a modern design with Art Deco influences, and fitted with a high-quality 14k gold nib... a luxurious, well-crafted pen, elegant and refined, and, moreover, of a modest size; indeed, when closed, it measures 136 mm in length.A few years later, Visconti – alas, constrained by sales figures and the need to generate turnover – was no longer able to maintain these characteristics of quality and corporate ‘carefree’ spirit; it began producing pens of inferior quality and appeal, or else very pretentious pens. Proof of this is, for f, the second series of the Manhattan range, which flaunts a platinum nib but features a soulless ‘body’ lacking the craftsmanship of the original model. This Wall Street, now for sale, belongs to the second series, I believe from 2005; the colour is a very beautiful ‘English’ green, with a palladium-plated clip and details, and a 14k gold nib in size M.The pen is brand new, never used, never even filled with ink for a nib test; it has been kept for thirty years in a fine collection. It comes complete with the original box (The interior has come detached, see the photo for details), the booklet, the outer slipcase and its Visconti converter (slightly tarnished in the central ring).
