Vtg 1952 Phil Mar Ceramic Big Cat Ashtray Set MCM Black Panther Bengal Tiger...: $199.99
Up for sale is a highly collectible, authentic matching set of vintage 1952 mid-century modern ceramic big cat ashtrays produced by the renowned Phil-Mar Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio. This iconic 1950s pop-culture set features two beautifully detailed, stylized wild cats frozen in a stalking pose over a deep forest green basin accented with striking bright gold-leaf style glaze trim along the wells.
The Black Panther: Features a glossy midnight black glaze finish with gleaming gold accents highlighting the eyes, mouth, and teeth.
The Striped Tiger: Features a striking hand-painted yellow-brown base glaze layered with bold, retro black primitive stripes.
The Bases: Both pieces showcase a rich, emerald-to-forest green high-gloss glaze pool with molded cigarette rests.
The unglazed bottom rims display the authentic faintly incised 1952 Phil-Mar factory markings (PM workshop stamps and model numbers) characteristic of their early 1950s Ohio pottery lines. Perfect for enthusiasts of 1950s kitsch, atomic era decor, or high-end vintage tobacciana collections!
Condition Note: Excellent vintage condition with deep, vibrant colors. No major chips or structural cracks. Light age-appropriate crazing to the high-gloss glaze layers and minor shelf wear on the unglazed bottom rims as expected for authentic pottery of this era.
