WWII US Army enlisted wool service coat (Class A, 4 pocket, dated Nov 1942) attributed to Tec 4 Jesse J. Gould of Bridgeton, New Jersey, a tank driver in Europe 1945.
Good Conduct Medal engraved to Jesse J. Gould, shown in the photos.
Condition: rough but presentable. Moth holes on both sleeves, pretty heavy on the back + the back of the collar, and small nips around the uniform, plus general wear. Displays well on a form. Please look at every photo.
Insignia- Left shoulder: Armored Force triangle, no division number (separate tank battalion)- Right shoulder: Amphibious Forces patch- Seahorse amphibious patch on the right breast pocket- Tec 4 chevrons on both sleeves- US and Armored branch collar discs- Pair of 747th TB unit crests, motto "WE BREAK THROUGH"- Ruptured duck discharge patch- Ribbon bar: Good Conduct, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, WWII Victory
The Soldier- Jesse Johnson Gould, born 1922 in Bridgeton NJ, died 1990- Inducted at Camden NJ in July 1943, serial number 32954926- January 1945: the Bridgeton paper reported Cpl. Jesse Gould serving in Germany, and another article that month described him as a tank driver- Discharged January 1946- After the war he was a carpenter in Fairfield Township NJ and served on the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape tribal council
The DUI's put him in the 747th Tank Battalion. The 747th crossed the Rhine in amphibious tractors in March 1945 and was renamed the 747th Amphibian Tank Battalion in July 1945, which matches the armored and amphibious patches on this coat. His discharge papers have not been found, so the unit is not confirmed by records. Copy of the newspaper clipping is included in the photos.
