Original Harris & Ewing, Washington, D.C. photographic portrait of President Warren G. Harding, personally inscribed and signed to Harry H. Tammen, publisher of the Denver Post.
Harding’s handwritten inscription reads:
“To H. H. Tammen
with the cordial greetings and good
wishes of one of the Fourth Estate.
Warren G. Harding”
The “Fourth Estate” wording is particularly significant to this presentation. The term traditionally refers to the press, directly acknowledging Tammen’s position in American journalism and giving the inscription specific context beyond a standard signed presidential portrait.
Tammen was a prominent Denver newspaper publisher and co-owner of the Denver Post. The personalized wording creates a direct association between President Harding and one of Colorado’s important newspaper figures of the period.
