Lovely Dunhill Survivor
No marque has garnered as much attention over the decades as the Dunhill pipe. Starting in the early 1900s, Dunhill pipes, with their distinctive “White Spot” logo, have been a recognizable symbol of smoking excellence continuously throughout their long history. The quality of the pipes is well known, but I suspect the major reason for the wide interest amongst more recent collectors is the simple fact that Dunhill, unlike most pipe makers, have, from the very early days, provided stamped coding that allows accurate dating of the individual pipe. For example this piece can be identified as made in 1950 by looking at the patent number and the 0 after the "D" in England. [1945 up to 1954] (The date code is just after the patent number (sometimes after ENGLAND): 1940 +: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 7, 8, 9 then, 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, for the 50s.)
This piece is a beautifully cared for Shell Briar Billiard. A lovely Group 3 rendition that is also an especially craggy one, with rippling rings offering tons of texture in hand. A flat at the underside allows it to sit with aplomb. The marque's craggy Shell Briar sandblast has yielded some particularly wonderful results here as the flanks display some killer, vertically-oriented, rippling grain patterns, while the bowl's fore features a lane of blasted birdseye down the center. Original clean stem with no apparent wear or bite marks, however the patented inner tube is missing. There is also some slight discoloration of the "white spot" due to age. Clean bowl and chamber are near perfect. This piece was fashioned 74 years ago and it's still in excellent condition and is a textbook example of a true classic and all around survivor. Rare find in this condition. Please review pictures carefully because they are the best description of this very fine pipe.
The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and it's ready to be enjoyed with your favorite tobacco.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to add this stunning piece to your rotation or collection.Measurements
