This particular suzani embroidery incorporates flowers and creeper vines of the asian steppe, pomegranate, and sun motifs. These patterns were believed to bring their owners spiritual as well as literal wealth.
Made in a traditional handmade manner without machinery. It incorporates vegetal dyes in the silk and silk yarn to give more intense colors and hues than you could with newer artificial dyes.
Measures 6 feet and 6 inches by 4 feet and 10 inches (200 centimeters by 147 centimeters).
Suzanis from Uzbekistan and other parts of central Asia have great cultural significance and value, most importantly in weddings where the brides and their mothers would make them as a dowry, and present them to the groom on their wedding day. Some would even get married wrapped together inside the Suzani, representing the binding together of their families. Suzanis and similarly made rugs were often the most valuable possessions of a household (particularly in nomadic yurts where they were lightweight, multi-purpose surfaces).
