A pearlware pitcher or jug with a green shell edge rim and a hand-painted “S” within a cartouche. This was made in England roughly between 1800 and 1830.Dimensions: 6 1/2” tall x 7 5/8” wide (from spout to handle)Condition: Minute cracks on and around spout, wear on the spout, and a chip on the foot rim. An identical pitcher was recovered from a trash pit at the home of Captain Steven Phillips (1764-1838) in Salem, Massachusetts (see figure 5 in the Ceramics in America article, “Digging Up Salem\'s Golden Age: Ceramic Use Among the Merchant Class,” by George Schwartz)
