Includes display stand shown in photos!
This specimen comes from one of the most exciting discoveries of the 2026 mining season at Jason’s Gold Mine in the historic Mount Baker Mining District of Washington State!
While cutting fresh material from the mine in the MBMM rock shop, Jason and Harry discovered something that could not fully be appreciated underground: exceptionally rich native gold associated directly with pyrrhotite-rich sulfide mineralization in the mine’s distinctive “Lightning Quartz.”
Until this discovery, much of the attention at the mine had been focused on the better-documented telluride-bearing portions of the vein. The sulfide-rich material had generally received much less attention for processing. Cutting these specimens changed that dramatically, and has potentially changed the course of mining in future seasons!!
In the newly examined material, visible native gold occurs as flecks, blebs, small masses, and fine particles intimately associated with the pyrrhotite and along sulfide/quartz contacts and fractures. This discovery has changed the way Jason and the crew look at the vein—and these sulfide-rich zones will receive much closer attention during future mining seasons.
Key Mineralization:
• Native Gold – visible metallic gold occurs throughout portions of this material. Carefully examine the specimen photos to see the gold present in this individual piece.
• Pyrrhotite – the abundant silvery-gray iron sulfide that makes this discovery particularly significant. In this material, native gold can occur directly within and adjacent to the sulfide-rich zones.
• Quartz – the distinctive fractured and brecciated white-to-gray vein quartz characteristic of Jason’s Gold Mine. The quartz is cut by complex networks of sulfide mineralization and locally stained by iron oxides.
The 2026 Discovery:
This material represents an important new chapter in the story of Jason’s Gold Mine. When Jason and Harry began cutting sulfide-rich Lightning Quartz from this season’s mining, they found bonanza-grade gold where they had not expected it—in the pyrrhotite-rich portions of the vein.
That was especially significant because most of this sulfide-bearing material had already been mined, sorted, and placed into the 2026 ore bags before the richness of this association was discovered.
The discovery means material that might once have received only a quick look now deserves very close examination. It also provides a fascinating snapshot of how understanding an orebody evolves as mining, cutting, microscopy, and specimen preparation expose features that are difficult to recognize underground.
This is an opportunity to own an actual specimen from that discovery—mined during the 2026 season from Jason’s Gold Mine and photographed exactly as offered here.
Important Notes
• This listing is for the exact specimen shown in the photographs.
• Visible native gold is present in this specimen; examine the close-up photographs carefully for its location and appearance.
• Natural ore is highly variable. No specific assay grade, total gold content, or recoverable gold yield is represented or guaranteed for this individual specimen.
• “High-grade” refers to the exceptionally rich gold-bearing material recognized during this discovery and does not represent a certified assay of every portion of the specimen.
• Natural fractures, saw marks, mineral boundaries, oxidation, and other features are part of the specimen.
• Excellent for mineral collections, mining-history collections, display, microscopy, geology education, or followers of the MBMM YouTube mining series.
